Growing Pains

Rally wrote a great piece on the state of B&B Vegas, so I won’t rehash it. Simply put, Thursdays are busy days and quite often overlap with other tweetups and LVIMA (like this Thursday). We want to see the group grow and thrive again, and need your help to keep it going. Please take this survey to help get Beer & Blog Vegas back on track. And if you’re interested in volunteering to help out the elder drunks with planning and venue coordination, please make sure you leave your email in question #8. Thanks, and hope to see you at our next meeting.

Also, there’s a Stone Beer Dinner happening at Whole Foods on Las Vegas Blvd on Thursday, June 10th.  Cost is $30 per person, and the apparently have some tasty brews and bites. More information can be found here or you can RSVP with Sara in Marketing at sara.taylor@wholefoods.com.

Step Up!

Time to address something that’s occurred the past two weeks:

Please take responsibility for what you order.

Sometimes the server brings us a single check for the entire group because they have to. Like at the Hofbräuhaus. Like at the Gordon Biersch Maibock tapping. The servers at places like this sometimes cannot split our checks (hey, it happens). And besides, servers generally groan when they hear separate checks (you should really check out Waiting In Vegas and her FAQ). It’s not cool to stick the last few people ponying up the extra cash for your beer and food imbibing. We all know it will never work out perfectly: Under $5 is generally not a big deal, but when it gets to be $40-$50 two weeks in a row, we have a problem.

Please take responsibility for what you order.

If you need to leave early, speak with the server and see if you can close out your section of the bill. If not, please leave enough cash to cover you tab AND a tip. We are a large group and often 18% gratuity is automatically added to the bill. Besides, the server generally works hard to keep beers filled and food coming out at the proper temperatures.

We want to keep going to nice places with great brews, but without respecting your fellow Beer & Bloggers the group will slowly disappear. None of us are independently wealthy, and many people work hard for their pay (especially the freelancers and entrepreneurs). Please help us because we don’t want Beer & Blog Las Vegas to have the reputation as stiffing the server.

To sum up:

  1. Be respectful of fellow beer & bloggers and bartender/server.
  2. Be responsible for your order.
  3. Pay your bill in full.
  4. Tip the server generously.
  5. Read Waiting In Vegas for a server’s insights.

Your elder drunks thank you for your cooperation on fixing this problem.

Tonight & Into February

Tonight we are meeting at the Boca Park Gordon Biersch for their Brewers Choice tapping party. I attended the Tuesday night version and GB on Paradise and they treated us to their lovely HellesBock and some selections on their food menu.

Please join us for this and we will meet in the bar after it ends at 7pm, if interests warrants.

Moving into February we will kick off the first week at the Freakin Frog, I expect we will have a small turn out due to the GoWalla Swap Meet on Wed night.

The second week of Feb we will be trying out Fado’s Irish Pub, formerly at Green Valley Ranch, it is located on Eastern just off 215.

The third week we have snug crawl on Friday night, so we will either scratch Thursday night or have a last minute planning session. Additional details will follow.

Finally we will be somewhere more on the North side of town again to wrap up the month. As always, additional information can be found on our twitter stream or on our facebook page.

Happy 1st Birthday!

Happy Birthday Amanda!

Happy Birthday Amanda! by Cayusa

Yep. It’s true! Beer & Blog Las Vegas is a year old this week.  We’ve come a long way in a year, from planning in 4 days to a number of different venues.  To celebrate, we’ll be making the pilgrimage to our first home, Freakin’ Frog on Maryland Parkway, across from UNLV.  Official  day is Thursday 1/14 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., but there are always people there starting around 5.  Feel free to enjoy one of the many beers and the wifi. And we’ll also need to raise a pint for the 2 year anniversary of the Beer & Blog organization.

Here’s to the start of another great year!

First of the New Year

Tonight will be the year’s first Beer N Blog and I expect it to be a fairly good turn out. We will be meeting at McMullans Irish Pub, across from the Orleans Casino. It is far enough off the strip that it should not be effected by CES foot traffic. But accessible to most of our members, looking forward to getting the year kicked off on a high note!

Year End Beer n Blog

The year is coming to end and it’s time for one last Beer n Blog. We are going to stick with Gordon Biersch for the next few weeks until we get a schedule going for the start of Feburary.

A lot of folks will be nearby next week for CES, so it seems like a logical meeting place for the short term.

Hope to see some of you out there tonight.

Beer & Blog & Bird & Ball & Birthday!

Next Thursday, November 26 is:
1) Beer & Blog night
2) Thanksgiving Day
3) Beer & Blog “Elder Drunk” Neal Mason’s birthday!!!

If you don’t already have plans, please join us at the M Resort at 12300 Las Vegas Blvd. in Henderson for Beer & Blog & Bird & Ball & Birthday!

3-5 PM: Thanksgiving dinner at the Studio B Buffet ($23.95, no host)

5:20 PM: Watch the New York Giants / Denver Broncos game in the M Resort sportsbook. (Those of us who don’t enjoy football can go drink beer — 32 Degree Draft bar has an excellent selection of beers on tap — or check out the wine tasting room, play poker, etc. instead.)

Please RSVP on our Facebook event page to let us know if you’re planning to attend!

Hope to see you there!

Field Trip!

We're special!

We're special!

No, there won’t be  large yellow bus that has ‘Special’ written on it, but next week’s edition of Beer & Blog will be held at Dick’s Last Resort in Excalibur.  With any luck, the weather will be cooler and we’ll be rockin’ the patio.

This change is only for September 24th.  We will be sure to let you know if we do a permanent change of venues via Twitter and FaceBook and the likes.  Besides, we need to find a place that can tell the difference between Stella and Stout.  Anyone have any suggestions that have a decent beer selection and strong WiFi?

#FreeVegasBill Friday

Besides an awesome Beer n Blog last night at the Whuffaoke tonight, please join us on Twitter to help @VegasBill. He has been having problems with being banned off and on for the past couple weeks for possibly being a spammer.

He is a good friend of #bnblv and we would appreciate it if you added #freevegasbill to your Friday tweets.

Just to add, his account is currently up and running over the past hour, however he has been on and off a lot. So I think it is premature to celebrate just yet.

Lee’s Beer Experience tomorrow, Saturday, May 30

Beer & Bloggers are invited to meet up at Lee’s Beer Experience tomorrow, Saturday, May 30, 1-5pm at the Las Vegas Hilton.  Tickets are $40 if bought in advance (at Lee’s Discount Liquor) or $50 at the door (proceeds go to charity).  21+ only.  Sample hundreds of different beers from breweries from around the US and the world!

More information:

Neal and I attended last year and it was great, and very much worth the ticket price.  Who would like to go this year?
